What scares many people is that their home improvement may become dated and out-of-fashion as soon as they put down their paintbrush. Finding a look, style and design that is as timeless as it is fashionable can be a hard thing to come by. The key isn’t in the design however, it’s in the furniture!

Furnishings For Any Interior

Whilst colours, wallpaper and patterns are as temperamental as the British weather, furniture is often the more expensive aspect of interior design as people fork out hundreds on furnishing their homes. Wooden hardwoods are often the most popular choice due to their natural beauty and durable qualities, none so more so than natural Oak.

Rich in texture and beauty, oak is a wood that has been popular for generations when manufacturing home furniture. Its ability to compliment any interior design with its unique natural grain can bring character to any room in the home.

But like any wooden furnishing, oak furniture requires a little TLC from time-to-time. So what things should you remember?

DO Maintain Furniture

Make sure you regularly dust and polish your oak furniture using appropriate furniture polish. This will ensure that your oak furniture remains gleaming and vibrant. Make sure you don’t neglect the tops of wardrobes and those hard-to-reach areas.

DON’T Put Outside

Oak furniture can be treated to function both inside and outside but it is important to not mix the two. Outdoor conditions can be structurally and aesthetically damaging to oak designed for indoor use.

DO Open Drawers & Doors

The smell of freshly treated wood is one that will bring a smile to any room. By opening the doors and drawers of your new oak furniture, this will allow the smell of furniture oil to disperse into the surroundings as well as allowing the wood to breathe.

DON’T Expose To Heat / Direct Sunlight

One of the most important things to consider is the placement and layout of your new furniture. Avoid placing near heat sources such as radiators or in direct sunlight.  This will cause your furniture to fade, losing its natural beauty and, in excessive case can cause structural damage, due to cracking and dryness.

Do not place hot items, such as plates, dishes and pans on the surface of your oak furniture. This will not only affect the aesthetics of the grain, but can also cause scolding and interior damage.
