‘Recycled’ Urban Furniture-Basil chair
16.05.2011
‘Basil chair’, designed by milan-based Mr. Smith Studio for the Italian manufacturer Calligaris, draws its form from the structural morphology of a basil leaf. In the chair, the central rib serves as not only ornamental but also structural purpose. The chair is composed of restilon, a fully recyclable thermoplastic polymer composed of 35% recycled materials. The composite was selected for its structural properties, which allow for a more rigid exterior layer and a more flexible inner core, in the injection molded piece. Models are produced with either wooden or metal legs. via
