Somewhere-Hand Tufted Armchair
22.03.2011
‘Somewhere’ is a hand-tufted armchair designed by Tal Alkabes. The idea behind the design was to integrate the hand tufting technique used for rug making and translate it as a means of upholstery to furniture. The topography created by the varying heights of the wool, replace the traditional foam upholstery. The wooden support structure is minimal, shaped to give the flat carpet its armchair silhouette. Depicted on the carpet is the landscape of a meadow, which was chosen as a means of emphasizing the emotional and naive nature of the furniture object. The folded carpet transforms the flat meadow drawing it into a three dimensional landscape, providing the illusion of sitting somewhere else. via
